In Greene County district court Christopher Richard Sowers, 51, of Grand Junction was sentenced May 8 to 10 days in jail, with credit for time served, after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Matthew Alan Swanberg, 38, of Farmhamville was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault- first offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must complete an Iowa domestic abuse program. He was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge. He must also pay a $90 domestic abuse assault surcharge. Additionally, Swanberg shall not possess, ship, transport, or receive firearms, offensive weapons, or ammunition. He must deliver all firearms, ammunition, and offensive weapons to the Carroll County sheriff within 24 hours of receiving the order. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Joshua Jay Blumberg, 28, of Grand Junction was sentenced to 30 days in jail, with all but two suspended, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault- simple, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year, and he must complete the Iowa domestic abuse program. Blumberg was fined $105 with as $15.75 surcharge and a $90 domestic abuse assault surcharge. The court ruled he is unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Wayne Eugene Royer, 43, of Scranton has been charged with sex offender area/activity violation.
Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Nicolas Balderas Rodriguez, 61, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated; Tirone Isaac Bingley, 21, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana, along with a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia in magistrate court; and Marcus Lee Greene, 29, of Greensboro, NC, operating while intoxicated.
